"有缘再见"是什么意思? -关于中文 (简体)(中文)
缘 = 缘分, can be loosely translated to fate or destiny in English , used to implies something comes out as a surprise but in the same time seemingly expected. This is quite a unique concept in Chinese philosophy - something expected and unexpected in the same time.
An example :
Context: A and B don’t know each other. In a social event , A met B and find out that they came from the same city, let’s say Beijing.
A: 真的没想到你也是北京人,认识你是我的缘分
B:确实太有缘分了。
In this dialogue, some people may translate 缘分 to luck which is not incorrect, but not 100% accurate too, in a sense that when they say 缘分, they thought the meet up is unexpected (a luck) but kinda planned in the same time. It’s like they are destined to meet each other. However, simply go with destiny/destined as the translation, it doesn’t carries the implication that the whole thing is totally unexpected and nobody would expect it beforehand, while destiny is something you would expect to happen beforehand and it won’t be surprising when it actually happens.
I did my best explaining to you , if not confusing :) hope it make sense
